We’re not short on choices when it comes to delicious places to eat in Kentucky. The culinary scene here has been exploding over the past few years and can contend with anywhere else in the country. Sometimes a place will have such tasty food, but will still remain a well-kept secret without all the fanfare. Can you believe one such place isn’t really known outside of Kentucky and it’s been around for almost 100 years? You’ve got to check out Mike Linnig’s Restaurant in Louisville, the best-kept secret in Kentucky!
Just a stone’s throw from the Ohio River, Mike Linnig’s Restaurant has been around since 1925, serving some of the most scrumptious seafood in the state. While city residents flock to it, it’s not really known outside of the Bluegrass State. We think it deserves some love and recognition.
The interior is rustic, old-fashioned, and comfortable and is decorated with a ton of whimsy and history. Animal heads with hats, antiques, relics, and photos of local luminaries and historical places. This restaurant celebrates Kentucky with a lot of heart.
There’s ample outdoor seating, so bring the whole family over and sit out in the warm sun or inside one of the shaded gazebos. It’s a friendly and welcoming place and there’s a wooden totem pole dedicated to American soldiers throughout the country’s history.
When you tuck into the seafood here, you’ll be making all kinds of noises when you taste the flaky and flavorful batter that coats the light, flaky, juicy fish. You won’t want to stop there as you can get frog legs, hush puppies, clams, crab, scallops, oysters, and so much more.
Why go to a fancy restaurant for Alaskan Snow Crab Legs when you can get them right here at market price without paying extra for the setting? Crack ‘em open and dip ‘em in melted butter and the world will fade away. Yum!
All of the sides are on point. The onion rings are massive and so flavorful. The hush puppies are perfectly flavored. The fries have a thin layer of crispy flakiness while the insides are soft and delightful.
The menu is packed with so many options that you’ll want to come back again and again to try everything on it. Every item here is such a satisfying comfort, and you’ll be so glad you found out about the best-kept secret in Kentucky!
