It seems harder than ever for a restaurant to stand the test of time, as so many of our favorites have either closed their doors or changed things up significantly. That makes it all the more refreshing when a business knows what works and sticks with it - and one hot dog joint in Sioux City has done it for more than a century! Milwaukee Wiener House opened its doors in 1918, and a lot has changed since. But inside these walls, they still serve the same famous Iowa hot dogs - Coney Island style, with a small but delicious menu of extras. This place, located close to both the Nebraska and South Dakota borders, is like a trip back in time - and it's a trip well worth taking for hot dog lovers!
Sioux City has changed a lot since 1918, but one of the best things about the city is still going strong!
The Milwaukee Wiener House has been renovated many times since opening, of course, but the heart of the place is still the same - top-notch Coney Island-style dogs!
You still line up to order your hot dogs from the old-school counter before taking a seat at the benches or on the outdoor patio.
The dogs are the star here - fresh-grilled, with just the right amount of char, before being topped with onions and chili sauce. No ketchup here!
The dogs get the most hype, but the chili sauce might be the secret weapon. You'll probably want to have a bowl of chili as a side dish!
It's the little things that make an impact here, like the craft soda in glass bottles and the small-batch potato chips that come with your meal.
And of course, dessert is on the menu too! The rotating homemade pies here can compete with any diner.
Milwaukee Wiener House embraces its long history, so keep an eye out for the trophy case full of local memorabilia.
