The Tiny Hidden Eatery In Florida That Offers Soothing Canal Views

Fort Lauderdale is known for having beautiful beaches, canal waterways, and tons of sunshine. For me personally, this area has so much to do for anyone looking to get out and enjoy. Exploring the restaurants on Las Olas Boulevard is a great example, with pretty much every type of food you can imagine. But off Las Olas, a little bit further north in the beautiful neighborhood of Victoria Park, is a small eatery bursting with character. With soothing canal views and deliciously fresh food, check out The Hummus House, a tiny waterfront eatery in Fort Lauderdale, FL, worthy of a trek to dine.

Visiting The Hummus House in Fort Lauderdale for the first time, I was taken aback by the size of the eatery. It’s tiny - but filled with character, from the colorful turquoise signs out front to the decor inside.

Inside The Hummus House, it’s bright. There are nods of greenery throughout the shop, plus wafting smells of fresh pita and tabbouleh.

That’s right, if you’re a fan of authentic Middle Eastern cuisine with a twist, this is the perfect place to dine. The twist is, however, that these platters, sandwiches, and appetizers are all meatless.

The kibbeh, as it's traditionally known, is called kubbeh here because there is no ground meat inside. However, nothing is lacking in terms of flavor. You’re still getting the crisp of the bulgar on the outside and the flavorful pocket of veggies inside.

Paired perfectly with the nutty tang of the tahini sauce, this one is a must-try.

As the namesake details, hummus reigns supreme here, made fresh every single day from organic ingredients. This adds to the freshness of these dishes here. Plus, you’ll almost always get a variety of color with every platter, too.

But perhaps the best surprise overall was when I rounded the back corner of the restaurant and saw an outdoor dining space right on the water!

This covered patio offers different seating styles, from small tables to bar seats, overlooking the parked yachts and the boats motoring by.

Dining on freshly-made food with soothing canal views, under the Florida sun - it doesn’t get much better than that.

So head on over to Victoria Park and enjoy a midday meal of falafel, pita, and shawarma at The Hummus House.
