8 Humble Little Restaurants In Delaware That Are So Worth The Visit

Delaware's best dining experiences are found in local, lesser-known restaurants.

When it comes to fine dining, Delawareans know where to eat! We've got our fair share of seafood places, burger joints, and hole-in-the-walls where the best food in the state is hiding in plain sight. Delaware's favorite restaurants certainly include a few big, fancy places (like The Green Room!) - but the heart of the state's cuisine is located right in these little local landmarks.

1. Striper Bites, Lewes

Striper Bites is the place to go if you're looking for a guaranteed great meal at the beach. This bistro isn't anything fancy, but it's far from a hole-in-the-wall, and you'll love their creative take on beach menu favorites. Along with fresh seafood, burgers, soup and salads, their sushi bar is something to talk about!
Address: 107 Savannah Rd., Lewes, DE 19958

2. The Backyard, Milton

The Backyard is one of my favorite spots in Delaware, and I'm sure I'm not the only one! Not only do they serve tasty, farm-to-table dishes and have the best bakery in the state, but you can dine outside and enjoy lawn games like cornhole, horseshoes and lawn darts! How cool is that?Address: 211 Broadkill Rd., Milton, DE 19968

3. 33 West Ale House, Dover

The burgers and brews at this Loockerman Street favorite are so delicious that you'll wonder how you survived without them! Make it a point to dine here whenever you're in Dover because the food they serve is out of this world.Address: 33 Loockerman St., Dover, DE 19904

4. Taverna, Newark

Taverna's pasta dishes and brick-oven pizzas are the talk of the town, and in a town like Newark, that's a big deal. This Main Street newcomer has made quite an impression, so get there and see for yourself what makes them so good.
Address: 121 E Main St., Newark, DE 1971

5. The Dog House, New Castle

The Dog House is one spot that Delawareans love, and plenty of out of staters stop here on their way home from the beaches. It's a humble side of the road hot dog stand, but they might serve up the best chili dogs in the entire world.Address: 1200 N Dupont Hwy New Castle, DE 19720

6. Gus & Gus, Rehoboth Beach

Gus & Gus is located on the Rehoboth Beach boardwalk and has been in the same spot for over 60 years. This local landmark serves up fresh dogs and burgers all day long, and their fried chicken is absolutely delicious.Address: 15 S Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971

7. 2 Fat Guys, Hockessin

2 Fat Guys is home to my favorite wings in Delaware - the sweet and spicy sauce is perfectly balanced. They're famous for their enormous burgers, too, and hand-spun milkshakes that will make any meal a perfect treat.701 Ace Memorial Dr., Hockessin, DE 19707

8. Chesapeake and Maine. Rehoboth Beach

The best Lobster Rolls in the state are located at this Dogfish Head owned establishment.Address: 316 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach, DE 19971
