I’ve Lived In Arizona For More Than 14 Years And I’ve Never Had A Sonoran Hot Dog
We all know that certain foods are known in certain places. One food that represents the state of Arizona is the Sonoran hot dog. Well, I have something to admit to you that I am quite afraid to admit — I have never had one. Embarrassing, I know. It's, perhaps, the most iconic food in Arizona, too.
If you don't know what a Sonoran hot dog is, well, it sounds amazing. It's made with a hot dog that's been wrapped in bacon, grilled, and placed inside a bolillo-style hot dog bun. Then it's topped with condiments along with pinto beans, tomato, and onions. Yum!
This style of hot dog has its origins in the Sonoran state of Mexico, one of Arizona's closest neighbors. So, it's no wonder why hundreds of places around the state serve Sonoran hot dogs.
One such place in Phoenix is Lupita's Hot Dogs on 32nd Street in Phoenix. This mom-and-pop-style hot dog joint has outdoor seating and is a local favorite.
While there are other hot dog styles on the menu, you should probably try a Sonoran hot dog while you're here.
Heading south to Tucson, BK Carne Asada & Hot Dogs is one of the most popular spots in town.
Offering some of the best Sonoran dogs in the city, you'll have to try one for yourself when you visit.
I can only tell you that these hot dogs look absolutely delicious as I've never had one myself. The main reason I haven't had a Sonoran hot dog is due to dietary restrictions. The second reason is I don't eat meat. But hey, if I can find a place that serves a vegan Sonoran dog on a gluten-free roll, I'm all in!
So, I want to know — is there any other Arizona resident out there who has never had a Sonoran hot dog? Please let me know along with your reasons why! I know, I know, it's such an iconic food in Arizona. Maybe one day I will try one...
