Since 1956, this cherished eatery has been serving up some of the most mouthwatering Mexican food in Arizona, with a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel like you've stepped into someone's home. Grab a table and come see what all the hype is about - your taste buds won't regret it.
Bienvenidos a El Torero!
One of the oldest restaurants in Tucson - and perhaps all of Arizona - this local favorite has been family-owned and operated since 1956.
Despite undergoing a facelift in 2019, much of El Torero's old-fashioned charm still remains.
Traditional artwork, dim lighting, and kitschy neon signs impart the cozy feel we all know and love, while new equipment and an updated interior allow the restaurant to better serve the community.
The cuisine is a mixture of nostalgic favorites and modern, chef-driven specials, so there's something to please every palate.
Pictured here is the "2 x 2," El Torero's most celebrated dish. The meal includes two beef patty tacos and two cheese enchiladas, with rice and beans available for an extra $3.50.
If you're in the mood for a hearty bowl of soup, there are several different options on the menu.
From Albondigas (a traditional Mexican meatball soup) to chicken and rice and everything in between, each bowl is slow-cooked with flavorful spices and even more love.
Whether or not it's Tuesday, tacos are always a good idea.
El Torero offers nine different types, filled with everything from mahi mahi to carne asada. There's even a vegetarian option with fried cauliflower!
Anyone who's tried one of Lerua's Famous Tamales can attest to their deliciousness.
Green corn is the most popular variety, but beef and chicken are also available. You'll want to pick up a few dozen - trust us, they won't last long!
Some of the menu items are cultural fusions, like this green chile double cheeseburger.
It's everything you love about Mexican food and burgers rolled into one handheld package, and it promises love at first bite.
