No matter where you are in Arizona, great Mexican food is never far away. If the area in question is Tucson's Barrio Hollywood, there's only one place to go: Tanias "33." A local favorite for decades, this charming neighborhood serves up some of the best Sonora-style cuisine in the Old Pueblo.

For over 30 years, Tanias "33" has proudly served the historic West Side community of Tucson.

Tanias makes some of the biggest in town, filled to the brim with all your favorite meats, veggies, and smothered in sauce. You can even make it enchilada or chimichanga style! The handmade flour tortillas, fresh off the comal each morning, add an extra layer of authenticity that makes every bite better than the last.

Other entrees include menudo and other soups, taco salad, and various plates (breakfast and lunch/dinner.)

Plenty of meatless options are available, including vegetarian meats that can be substituted in any dish.

Don't leave without picking up some tamales—or, as Tanias calls them, "Mexican energy bars"—for the road!

Word On The Street Is That Hope’s Frybread Serves The Best Frybread In Arizona

Certain hidden gem restaurants offer some of the best cuisine we could ever hope to try. One place that fits that description is Hope's Frybread in Mesa. Making some of the best frybread in Arizona, it's no wonder this place has such a great reputation, and if you have not yet tried it, add it to your dining bucket list immediately!

For some of the best frybread in the state, you'll have to make your way to Mesa and stop at Hope's Frybread. This incredible Navajo restaurant is located at 144 S Mesa Dr. in Mesa.

Owners Hope and Aaron Peshlakai opened Hope's Frybread back in 2022, and it's already become a local favorite for traditional Navajo dishes that include frybread.

Frybread, or dah diníilghaazh, is a flatbread made of flour, salt, water, and baking powder that is then fried in oil. It's a traditional bread of the Navajo and absolutely delicious! Not only is it crispy on the outside but it's chewy in the middle.

While Hope's Frybread serves traditional Navajo cuisine, it also offers more modern-day twists. For example, how about a Double Navajo Burger that includes two quarter-pound beef patties topped with lettuce, cheese, tomato, onion, ketchup, mayo, and mustard between frybread? Sounds amazing to me!

And then there's the Navajo taco featuring a piece of crispy frybread topped with chili beans, lettuce, tomato, cheese, onion, and homemade salsa. Delicious!

The lamb sandwich is another popular menu item with a filet of lamb roasted with green chiles and onion and set in a savory slice of frybread.

Want dessert? Well, guess what? Hope's Frybread offers a selection of sweet frybread including Nutella and Banana, S'Mores, Sweet Treat Specials with raspberry and white chocolate sauce, and the Classic with powdered sugar and honey. You can order the regular size or the miniature size.
