Little Manatee River State Park in Hillsborough County, Florida, is a 2,433-acre gem that most people don’t know exists!

The park was established back in 1974 as the Little Manatee River State Recreation Area. But since then, it has grown to encompass so much space and natural beauty.

Heralded as one of the most pristine blackwater rivers in the southwestern part of the state, people come from all over to canoe, kayak, or paddle this hidden gem.

The river itself starts in a swampy area, but after flowing for nearly 40 miles, it empties into Tampa Bay.

Nature enthusiasts find solace in this little park, observing and enjoying the rare ecosystems, the oxbow wetlands, sand pine, and oak scrub.

If you feel like making a weekend out of the adventure, then set up shop in the campground! There are sites for both tents and RVs here.

The park is open 365 days a year from 8 a.m. to sundown. There is a small entrance fee charged per vehicle. However, camping is an extra fee.
