Wyoming Has An Entire Museum Dedicated To Mountain Men And It’s As Awesome As You’d Think

The Museum of the Mountain Man in Pinedale, Wyoming, offers a unique and engaging look into the history of the Rocky Mountain fur trade and the region's early inhabitants.

Wyoming may be one of the later states to join the country, but that doesn't mean its history isn't long, varied, and fascinating. One of the best places to learn all about it is a unique museum devoted to one of the earlier groups in the region: the mountain man. Here's what to know.

Wyoming has a fascinating history — one that's told at the Museum Of The Mountain Man in Pinedale.

Operated by the the Sublette County Historical Society, this museum has been open since 1990.

The museum educates people about the history of the Rocky Mountain fur trade, diving into the Native Americans and trappers who once roamed the area.

The exhibits are fun, unique, and educational!

Some exhibits let you feel like you traveled through time and bring a recreation of 1800s and 1900s Wyoming to life.

Others feature artifacts, dioramas, and taxidermy from time past.

It's a great place to really learn about the history of the state in a fun and engaging way.

It's the West like you've never seen it before!

And museums are, of course, more than just their gift shops. But it doesn't hurt when the gift shops are excellent.

And the one at the Museum of the Mountain Man definitely is! Make sure to bring your wallet when you enter.

One important factor to keep in mind: The Museum of the Mountain Man is not open year round.

It's open May 1 to October 31 — 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. But there are events held throughout the year!

The museum is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (60 and over) and free for children 12 and under. So, make sure you stop by this summer or fall! You won't regret it.
