The Biergarten at Olbrich Park is a spot in Madison that's simply magical as the sun sets. It's a simple place that's only open seasonally but it's a spot worth seeking out. Here's why.

The Biergarten at Olbrich Park is located right on the Lake Monona Shore. Lake Monona is a 3,300-acre lake that's surrounded one three sides by Madison. The park has picnic areas and a swimming beach and there are botanical gardens across the street.

The Biergarten allows visitors to bring in picnics, but it also sells locally crafted soft pretzels, Nürnburg-style brats and fresh cheese curds. The main Wisconsin food groups are covered!

The Biergarten opened as part of an agreement that brought more entertainment - and beer - to the park. It was an immediate hit and on warm nights people crowd the picnic tables that line the shore.

Before the show starts, get a cold beer at the Biergarten. There are a number of Wisconsin favorites to choose from. Local and regional breweries are well represented, including Capital Brewery, Karben4 Brewing, Lake Louie Brewing, Ale Asylum and Delta Beer Lab.

The Biergarten is the perfect place to watch boats drift by as the sun gets low in the sky and turns various shades of orange and red. Sometimes the best colors can be seen just after the sun dips below the water.
