There's something about a model train that appeals to just about everyone. From adults, who are in awe of the mechanisms that make these trains run, to kids, who marvel at the tiny trains in action, everyone can appreciate these novelties. If you agree, then you'll be pleased to learn that Virginia has its very own indoor train park. While it may be small in size, its interior is impressive, especially when you consider the fact that you're actually inside a converted train depot! Take a look at the whimsical train park that relatively few have discovered:
Tucked away along the charming downtown district of South Hill, you'll discover there's something quite unusual inside the old train depot: a museum of model trains!
The tracks inside are built to scale and represent over 200 miles of real tracks that were once part of the Atlantic & Danville (A&D) Railroad.
The model depicts the town as it appeared in 1950s, when the A&D route ran from Lawrenceville to Clarksville.
Both children and children-at-heart will delight in this miniature trains running through town, offering a unique glimpse into Virginia's railroad history.
And the best part of all? Admission is completely free! So the next time you find yourself in this neck of the woods, be sure to stop by this interactive indoor train museum.
The South Hill Train Museum can be found at 201 South Mecklenburg Avenue, South Hill, VA 23970.
