You may recall an article we wrote about natural swimming holes in Virginia. There's something about these unexpected gems that feels so rewarding and, on particularly hot days, refreshing. We've found another equally enticing spot that features not just a waterfall swimming hole, but a natural waterslide. Located in Syria, this natural waterslide in Virginia requires a bit of hiking, but the reward is completely worthwhile.
White Oak Canyon is located in Shenandoah National Park and is an area beloved for its world of waterfalls.
For the quickest access to the natural waterslide, you'll want to take the Cedar Run Trail.
As you'll notice, the point of interest is approximately 1.7 miles from the trailhead. The above map is courtesy of Hiking Upward. For an interactive map to the Cedar Run Trailhead Parking Area, click here.
The Cedar Run Trail begins with a gradual descent that, depending on rain levels, passes a series of beautiful ponds and cascading waterfalls.
The base of the hike is the true attraction. Here you'll find the natural slide, a gradual waterfall slope, and a swimming hole that makes for an enticing swimming spot.
For those who dare, the natural water slide is a thrilling activity that's sure to cool you off.
After you zip down the natural slide, you'll splash into the natural pools at the base.
It may not look very steep, but rest assured you will fly down this slippery slide!
As is true with all-natural swimming areas, caution is of utmost importance! Check water levels before attempting the slide to ensure the bottom pool is deep enough. Wearing water shoes as well as swimwear is highly recommended, as you won't want to make the return hike in wet clothes.
The adventure doesn't have to end there; for anyone who's up for more hiking and waterfalls, simply follow the blue blazes of the White Oak Canyon Trail.
This challenging hike is a 7.9-mile loop that will wind its way past six major waterfalls and swimming holes.

Taking the longer route also offers stunning views and overlooks into the canyon.
If you plan on hiking the entire loop, enjoying lunch, and checking out the swimming attractions, be sure to plan on spending up to 7 hours outdoors.
Whether you make a beeline for the natural waterslide or feel like tackling a challenging hike in Shenandoah National Park, you'll be glad you chose this setting.
