Many people don't realize South Carolina is home to an amazing amusement park. That's because when many South Carolinians and visitors think of Carowinds Amusement Park they associate it with the other Carolina; more specifically, with Charlotte, North Carolina. But Carowinds is truly a park "of the Carolinas" and located in BOTH states.
It's a little known secret (until you actually visit this park) especially when their address is in Charlotte.
But this park is actually located in South Carolina - at least a good part of it is.
Carowinds is proud of the fact and eagerly boasts about it on signs in the park that mark the state line. They even advertise themselves as "the place where the Carolinas come together."
Not that we're keeping score here in the Palmetto State, but many of the funnest attractions at the park are on South Carolina soil, like the all new Blackbeard's Revenge - a six story waterslide complex. The addition to the waterpark opened this season, doubling the size of the existing waterpark at Carowinds.
But there's no need to split hairs over which state has the funnest rides.
Especially when the world's fastest giga-coaster is located right here in, well....the Carolinas.
The "Fury" debuted in 2015 and was voted the number one giga coaster in the WORLD. Hop on this one and scream your way through 95 mph twists and turns and 80-degree drops for a full 3.4 minutes. Wow!
Or hit the Carolina Cobra for 360 turns guaranteed to drop your stomach and scramble your senses.
For the little tykes not tall enough for the big coasters, there are plenty of scaled-down rides that aren't quite so...daring.
This year Carowinds is taking us back to our own childhood with the addition of the all new "County Fair." You remember the county fair, right? The flying swings, the scrambler...and...
...the infamous "Rock-n-Roller" that played 80's tunes! Step back in time to the old county fair and relive the 70s and 80s.
This Carolina amusement park is more than coasters and rides, they also have special events, like Scarowinds, The Great Pumpkinfest and Winterfest.
And their own glamous cirque show featuring high flying acrobats and more.
Carowinds opened in 1973 on just 73 acres. Today she's grown way beyond and over the South Carolina state line to encompass a whopping 398 acres and employs more than 2,000 people.
