These 12 Unique Houses In South Carolina Will Make You Look Twice…And Want To Go In

Explore 12 unique and historical homes in South Carolina that captivate with their architectural beauty and rich history.

One of the things I love to do when when riding around South Carolina is to look at the all the historical homes our state has to offer. We have so many elaborate homes that you just can't help but gawk at and wish to take a tour of. There are a few that I've had the delight to see inside and out, but were ones that have been opened to the public. The last thing I'm going to do is knock on someone's door and ask them if I can tour their home! How weird would that be? Here are 12 unique houses in South Carolina that will make you look twice and want to go in!

1. A home in Laurens, SC

Such a beautiful home with elaborate details! Does anyone know if there is a name for that circular opening on the second floor balcony?

2. Eye of the Storm, Sullivan's Island

I have to confess that I want a home like this one! It's a monolithic dome house with 4 floors. Definitely a unique solution to outlasting hurricanes.

6. A Robert Mills Home, Columbia, SC

It says something about the man when the home he built still stands after so many years.

7. Green House, Fripp Island, SC

Okay, maybe it's only unique because of its unusual pistachio green color, but you have to admit that if you were driving down the road...you would look twice!

8. The Suggs' Home, Myrtle Beach, SC

Remember that show, "Extreme Home Makeover" with Ty Pennington? This was one of those homes!

9. Marvelous House, Lake Keowee, SC

There are amazing homes on Lake Keowee! I like to check them out when they're on the market. Then you can attend the Open House and really get a look around.

No one makes homes like this anymore. The ironwork itself is a work of art!

This mansion was built in 1886, but has since been repurposed into a breathtaking luxury hotel and inn.

Originally built for an Englishman and his wife, it is only one of five National Historic Landmarks in Columbia.
