While it's always a toss-up whether we'll have snow in Western Pennsylvania, any time's really a good one to get out and explore during the crisp winter months. If you're looking for the perfect opportunity to get outdoors, breathe in the fresh air, and take a leisurely stroll, make your way to Fallingwater near Pittsburgh for a beautiful winter walk.
Fallingwater, the famous home designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, welcomes visitors on a Winter Walk through its outdoor grounds, which is especially beautiful when sprinkled with snow.
If you've not been to Mill Run on a snowy day, you'll quickly discover it's one of the best winter towns in Pennsylvania.
Walks will be held daily, except on Wednesdays, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. through mid-March.
The last walk of the day is at 3 p.m.
Carve out at least an hour for your self-guided tour of the home's grounds. Admission for the Winter Walk includes access to several areas of the exterior grounds.
If you've ever spent a winter in Pittsburgh, you already know how unpredictable the weather can be. Be sure to check the weather before heading to Fallingwater, so you can dress for the weather.
Wear sturdy boots, especially if you're visiting on a snowy day, so you can explore the trails. Fallingwater sits within Bear Run Nature Preserve, which boasts more than 20 miles of trails.
You'll probably want to bring your camera along, too, to capture the beauty of both the home and the grounds as they're blanketed in snow or shimmering in ice.
The Winter Walk also provides access to some of the outdoor terraces, where you'll be treated to sweeping winter views of the grounds.
Tickets for the Winter Walk cost $12 per person. Children under six years old are free. However, tickets must be purchased in advance.
