Covered bridges are an integral part of our nation's history. Sadly, only a few remain. Originally, the U.S. had over 14,000 covered bridges, and today less than 900 still stand. Pennsylvania leads the country as the state with the most covered bridges. (There are 197 covered bridges in Pennsylvania!) These precious architectural artifacts are not only historic, but they comprise some of the most charmingly beautiful sights in Pennsylvania. It's true - and just to prove it, we put together some photos of the whimsical Pennsylvania covered bridges. (A special thanks goes to photographer Doug Kerr, whose beautiful work made much of this possible.)
