The Oregon Resort Where You Can Go Skiing, Try Snowshoeing, Relax With Friends, And More This Winter

Even if you live in Oregon, it's possible and even likely that you've never heard of Cooper Spur Mountain Resort. This small, family-focused ski area is on the north side of Mount Hood, and it's one of the oldest ski areas in North America. This lesser-known Oregon ski resort may be small, but it has a lot to offer its visitors and guests, and it's a great place for a weekend getaway this winter.  Read on to learn more about it.

Cooper Spur may be small, but that's what a lot of people like best about it. When you visit this resort, you feel like you're part of a family. There are only 15 rooms, condos, and cabins in the entire resort. There's only one two-person chairlift, and there are only 10 trails.

Don't let the small size scare you off, though - this place is amazing.

Tourists first came to the Cooper Spur property in the summer of 1888 to stay in tents and to participate in guided explorations of the area. The first inn, the Cloud Cap Inn, was built in 1889. The recorded ski trip in the area took place in 1890. In 1902, the first Snow Shoe Club formed.

Today, snowshoeing is still a popular activity here. There are 6.5 kilometers of trails on the property for this activity, and they range in difficulty from beginner to advanced.

If you haven't tried snowshoeing before, this is the perfect place to get out there on a pair and enjoy the winter beauty.

The snowshoeing trails are also open for cross-country skiing. There are ski rentals if you don't have your own.

Of course, most visitors do at least a little downhill skiing while they're at Cooper Spur as well.

This mountain is perfect for beginner and intermediate skiers. You can sign up for lessons if you need some.

If you're looking for a bit more of a thrill, Mount Hood Meadows is much larger and is only 20 minutes away. Discount passes are available to all Cooper Spur guests.
