There’s No Attraction In The World Like This One In Ohio

While Ohio is full of multiple earthworks from various cultures, there's no earthwork in the world that compares to the Great Serpent Mound---both in shape and size. But what's even more intriguing about the mound is its indefinite purpose, which continues to baffle archaeologists and anthropologists.

Constructed in the shape of a snake, the Great Serpent Mound is one of the most impressive earthworks in North America and the world.

This 1,348-foot-long and three-foot-high prehistoric effigy mound along Ohio Brush Creek in Adams County continues to marvel locals and visitors alike.

It was built around 1000 A.D. by the Fort Ancient culture and likely used as a place of ceremony.

Although the original purpose of the earthwork is still unknown, markers at the sight point toward the summer solstice sunset, as the oval two-head area is aligned with the summer solstice sunset.

Capturing the whole thing in a photo is difficult, but absolutely amazing when possible...

...and you can always climb the observation tower for a better view.
