There’s Nothing Better Than This Epic Festival In Charlotte
The Carolina Renaissance Festival is the largest Renaissance Festival in North and South Carolina. It opens on September 30 and will run through November 19 in Huntersville, NC, which is just up the road from Charlotte. When you step into the Renaissance festival, you will be transported into a fantasy land where wenches and pirates are real, jousting is a regular occurrence, and Knights in shining armor are the heroes of the festival.
History comes alive in the imaginary town of Fairhaven, which is built to look and feel just like a town would've felt in the Renaissance Era.
Fairhaven offers all day entertainment, games, rides and arts and crafts that teach festival goers all about the Renaissance Era.
The Renaissance Festival employs more than 350 actors and employees who all play the part of a Renaissance character.
You will see wenches and pirates, knights and fair ladies, nobles and peasants. And the festival encourages you to dress up, too. As the largest costume party in the Carolinas, you'll fit right in if you decide to wear a Renaissance Era outfit when you go to the festival.
One of the most popular things to see is the many jousting matches.
There is entertainment with various music acts throughout the day that you can enjoy as you walk through the festival.
A few highlights for this year include the CRAIC show, which is a high energy Irish and Nordic band that will play a music unlike any you've ever heard before. The Reelin' Rogues, a Celtic band, will be sure to rock your world.
You might even witness a Renaissance-inspired flash mob!
The characters come together to perform large group dances that take over the festival and is reminiscent of something you would see in a town square during the Renaissance Era.
There are entertainment acts like juggling and fire throwing.
There is also a hypnotist at the festival who will be putting on a show and hypnotizing members of the audience.
There are plenty of activities for the kids.
Many arts and crafts stations are geared towards children and there are other activities like face painting, tons of games, and rides.
This flying pirate ship ride is just one of the rides the kids might enjoy.
Others include a Castle Siege, Queen Darts, Catapulting Frogs, a Dungeon Museum, and more.
Don't forget about Twig the Fairy, who will be floating around the festival with her woodland instruments.
Little girls love her and she is a bright spot to see throughout the entire festival.
And let's not forget about the food!
When you go to the Renaissance Festival you will find all sorts of Renaissance-era food to try and enjoy. Giant turkey legs are a favorite delicacy at the Renaissance Festival!
Other favorite dishes include beef stew in a bead bowl.
Nearly all the food that you will see at the Renaissance Festival is food that was popular during this era and could have been eaten by knights and nobles.
The large salted pretzels are an excellent snack.
You'll find 'wenches' walking around the festival selling food and beverages, so you definitely won't go hungry.
