New York Has An Entire Museum Dedicated To Jell-O And It’s As Awesome As You’d Think

Jell-O is one of the most popular desserts in America and was once a mainstay in odd dinner recipes decades ago. There once was a time when few households were without it. The small town of Le Roy in New York was the birthplace of this famous confection and you can witness its whimsical history at the Jell-O Gallery Museum.

This modest, unassuming stone house seems as historical as Jell-O itself. Once through the doors, you're in for a multicolored treat.

On your way in, say hello to the Jell-O Cow, an artful reminder of where Jell-O comes from. It's covered in images not just of the original Jell-O logo, but also artwork that depicts much of the town's landmarks and history.

When you first walk in, you'll be greeted with a history of Jell-O including art and advertisements from decades past. Did you know they only started with four flavors: orange, lemon, strawberry, and raspberry? The infamous lime flavor was added in 1930.

Plastic molds, trading cards, figurines, toy train cars, and much more are displayed in this exhibit, showcasing just how much a part of pop culture that Jell-O has been over the years. You'll observe art and advertisements from decades past.

Jell-O molds were once as much of a point of pride for a kitchen as fine china. They not only made for some entertaining and playful dishes, but could serve as decorations as well.

Jell-O spoons were also an important accessory. Perhaps it's a not-so-subtle reminder not to use a fork, chopsticks, or your hands.

Admission to The Jell-O Gallery Museum is $5.50 for adults, $1.50 for children ages 6-11, and free for children 5 and under. There's a fun gift shop with apparel, toys, and other collectibles to take home. The museum is only 30 minutes from Rochester and would make a perfect day trip. While you're in the area, Turning Point Park is a glorious hike, and the Dancing Wings Butterfly Garden is a wonder for kids and adults alike.
