You’ll Never Believe What’s Hiding in This New Mexico Hotel

Soak in the special energy in this spiritually charged spa space.

The Four Seasons Resort Rancho Encantado Santa Fe is a gorgeous property set on an enormous, secluded slice of land about 15 minutes outside of the city’s main street and downtown Santa Fe Plaza. The hotel is known for many things — its intimate, casita-exclusive accommodations, its prime and unfiltered view of the surrounding southwest scenery, and its 57 rolling acres in the Sangre de Cristo foothills to explore on a solo or guided hike. However, one detail guests may not be aware of before they visit is that the award-winning on-site spa is actually situated on a spiritual vortex.

The property itself is on sacred land, making it even more fitting that the 10,000-square-foot spa is set on a vortex. And it’s no surprise the treatments offered here lean into the magical, spiritual properties this special space embodies, with its unique healing energies. It feels like a whole new level of seeking and achieving well-being, and each of the practitioners is exceptionally careful to respect the native land you’re on and its traditions.

One standout treatment I experienced while visiting was called the “Mountain Spirit Purification” journey. The treatment began with a sage smudging ceremony (but only if I wanted and was comfortable with it!) — this practice is meant to clear out my unsettled energy. Then, my body was enveloped in a nutrient-rich adobe clay. Once I was cozy and cocooned in the clay, I felt as though I was immersed in an exceptionally purifying, restorative state of relaxation. The treatment finished with a grounding chakra balancing massage to restore my mind, body, and spirit. I left the experience feeling fresh and reawakened.

The spa’s other treatments also blend together a touch of “Regionally Inspired Bodywork,” in which practitioners combine modern and regional, ancient techniques and styles of bodywork to restore and renew the body and spirit. There’s even a special “Spiritual Enhancement Menu,” which seeks to align the mind, body, and spirit through the addition of specific energy-balancing rituals. Some of the enhancements you can add to the spa’s existing treatments include a smudging ceremony, chakra balancing, and sacred sound healing therapy, with crystal bowls.

I could definitely sense the special energy at this spa set on sacred land. I thought it was neat that they make use of many indoor-outdoor space opportunities, such as the private spa courtyards, which feature a private hot soaking tub, a dry sauna, and chairs for lounging. Bonus: These are complimentary for resort guests to book for themselves (and can also be enjoyed alongside a treatment). And don’t miss visiting the spa’s warming room, which sits in the middle of the spa courtyard area and is outfitted with healthy snacks, a warm fireplace, and plenty of cushy seats with blankets to unwind and sink into a state of spiritually connected satisfaction before or after a treatment journey.
