Cemeteries are morbid places. As beautiful as some may be, there are bodies buried under the ground. How do cemeteries make you feel? It all depends on perspective. Do you see fields of green and curious tranquillity or rather a chilling spot best avoided at night? However you see them, these cemeteries are sure to evoke a response.
1. Green Bank Methodist Church Cemetery, Green Bank
All things eventually fade away. This cemetery was established in 1748; time has taken the text from many of these tombstones. Some are centuries old and years of wind and rain have left a lasting impact.
2. Name unknown, Long Branch
This striking cemetery was shot at night. Though dark, one fact is very clear: those mausoleums are magnificent.
3. Evergreen Cemetery, Farmingdale
The bare tree is a striking centerpiece in Evergreen Cemetery, established in 1872.
4. Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Newark
You'd think you were taking a walk in the park, until you saw the tombstones. Nature is already beginning to reclaim some of the older graves.

Admittedly, this cemetery looks a little creepy. It is the final resting place of many who died in the tragic Hoboken Piers fire of 1900.
7. Strangers Burial Ground, Deptford
Many buried here are Hessian soldiers who perished during the Revolutionary War Battle of Red Bank. Strangers to the area, this is how the cemetery got its name.
8. Lower Squankum Friends Burial Ground, Howell
This Quaker cemetery was established in 1778 and is now overgrown. Home to many Civil War soldiers, graves continue all the way back into the woods.

Though the building has clearly been abandoned, the cemetery has not. This is evidenced by the fairly modern flags marking many graves.

This Presbyterian cemetery is the final resting place of several Princeton University presidents as well as former US vice-president Aaron Burr, Jr.

The cheerful colors in the background provide a striking contrast to Civil War-era graves.
12. Old Tennent Cemetery, Manalapan
This historic cemetery was once the host of a bloody Revolutionary War battle, the Battle of Monmouth. The church acted as a makeshift hospital and both the building and grounds are said to be haunted.
13. Hope Moravian Cemetery, Febletown
This striking cemetery almost looks like a lovely place to be. Its beauty even earned the cemetery a spot in the original Friday the 13th film.
