Get A Real Appreciation For Summer In New Hampshire By Visiting The Boat Museum In Wolfeboro
The New Hampshire Boat Museum in Wolfeboro offers a unique look at the history of boating with vintage boats, restoration projects, and educational classes.
New Hampshire is full of quirky things to see and fun history to learn. You can see it across the state in the many roadside attractions you'll find on even a short road trip. And many of us grew up going to museums throughout the state that taught us things we never knew we'd need to know. In fact, the jury is still out on if we needed to know that you can taxidermy a two-headed calf. But one museum that is worth a visit is this one in Wolfeboro!
There’s a good chance you’ve seen the New Hampshire Boat Museum and wondered what it was. The building is actually shaped like the hull of a ship!
If that wasn’t enough to reveal what’s inside, the murals all over the walls will. They’re all ocean-themed!
The museum specializes in the history of (you guessed it!) boating in New Hampshire and elsewhere.
As soon as you walk in the door you’ll see their impressive collection of vintage boats.
The staff here is dedicated to making sure visitors don’t leave with any questions. They’re incredibly well-informed and it seems like they’ve been presented with every possible question!
Whether you’re interested in the evolution of boat making or just want to see things that will surprise you, you’ll happily be able to spend the day here.
On display, you’ll see large boats as well as small models.
But, sharing history isn’t the only thing that happens here. The museum also works to restore historical boats.
Primarily volunteers, the folks who take on this work love boating. They even offer classes for people who’d like to learn how to build their own boats.
Of course, no museum trip is complete without a stop in the gift shop!
In fact, this is a great spot to visit even if you just need a gift for someone with a love of boats.
Throughout the year the museum also offers fun events, including the annual tour of boathouses on Lake Winnipesaukee.
Once you’ve appreciated the indoor exhibits, head right outside to see the Millie B, a replica of a 1928 Hacker-Craft.
If you have the time, take one of the rides they offer!
The trip is exciting and lasts about 45 minutes. Passengers will get to see all of Wolfeboro Bay.
The trip really makes for a great finish to your museum visit.
