Madrid General Store In Nebraska Will Transport You To Another Era

The general store was once a stalwart of every community, but those small-town stores have been disappearing for decades. There's still at least one, the Madrid General Store in Nebraska, that hangs onto the vintage charm of yesteryear while providing residents with the goods they need from day to day. It's one of the best Nebraska general stores, and we know you'll love it.

The little Perkins County village of Madrid, in southwestern Nebraska, has always been a quiet place, even back in its early days. It's quite a drive from any major towns or cities, and such a remote location might typically mean that residents would have to drive many miles to restock on groceries and supplies.

Not the residents of Madrid, though. They have their very own general store, so the essentials are just a hop, skip, and jump from home.

The little store is owned by a local Mennonite family and is known for its fair prices and high-quality products.

If you're seeking out last-minute ingredients for dinner tonight, you'll find a decent selection here. You'll find everything you need for baking, including flour and pre-made baking mixes.

The store's specialty is bulk foods. Whether you're looking for nuts, seeds, grains, flour, or even candy, there's plenty of it here.

Fresh foods abound, as well. Fresh Wisconsin cheeses, locally-grown produce, locally-raised eggs, and Nebraska meats are all on offer here. We may be biased, but we think the local products taste SO much better than the ones you'll find in most supermarkets.

The baked goods here are the stuff of legends. Baking is done once a week and freshly-baked treats are available each Thursday. The pies are divine, the rolls are exceptional, and the bread is so good you'll never want to go back to the mass-produced loaves again.

Beyond food, the store offers what seems like a little bit of everything.

Stationery, greeting cards, toys, unique gifts, and books fill the shelves, just begging to be browsed at your leisure.

Whether you're shopping for someone special or just picking out a much-deserved gift for yourself, you're sure to find just the thing.
