7 Places to Hear Amazing Music in Nashville Without Paying a Dime

Music in Music City? Well, it's not that hard to come by. You can take a walk down Lower Broad at any time of day and you'll hear some kind of twang coming from inside the honkytonks on the neat ol' Honkytonk Highway. That being said, sometimes you just want somewhere cool and fun to visit. We decided to take a look at some of the neatest places to hear some music without a cover charge. We do recommend ordering something, though - help your city economy stay afloat, folks!

1. The Bluebird Café

Though this small venue was famous long before the Nashville show featured it prominently, the lines at the Bluebird Café have seen a spike in recent years. Attend just one show, and it's easy to see why -- every night is a series of different country and acoustic artists and songwriters. Be sure to get there and get in line early!

2. Live on the Green

Live on the Green takes place in the green space in front of the Courthouse on 3rd Ave and James Robertson Pkwy. The concert series features free, live music every Thursday night in August as well as Labor Day Weekend. Parking is hard to come by, so get there early.

3. Musician's Corner

Featuring Acoustic Fridays and multi-stage Saturdays, Musician's Corner is a Nashville staple. Located in Centennial Park, the festival is great to hear local up-and-coming artists as well as some big names. The concerts run from May to September, but they take the month of July off.

4. HonkyTonk Central

Open every day from 11am to 3am, Honkey Tonk Central is hard to miss, right on the corner of 4th and Broadway. It has 3 full stories of live music and bars, and the upper floors also have balconies overlooking the scene on Broadway. Be sure to stop here to see some up-and-coming Nashville artists.

5. Soulshine Pizza Factory

What's better than free music? How about free music AND great pizza?? The chain gets its name from an Allman Brothers Band song and shows off its musical roots by frequently offering free shows. Be sure to check out the calendar on their website before you go, as they don't have musicians every night.

6. Tootsie's World Famous Orchid Lounge

The world-famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge has been a staple in the alley across from the Ryman for over 50 years. There is still no cover charge, and is considered one of the best places for rising artists to get their careers off the ground. Just ask Willie Nelson, who signed his first songwriting deal after performing on their famed stage.

7. Nashville Symphony Community Concerts

Every June, the Nashville Symphony tours the city, performing at different parks throughout the month. All of their community concerts are free and provide a great opportunity to get out, enjoy the warm summer weather, and listen to live classical music.
