If you've lived in Montana for any length of time, you've most likely heard of the ghost stories surrounding places like the Grand Union Hotel in Fort Benton, The Lobby Bar in Great Falls and Boulder Hot Springs. But the truth is, Montana has many more ghost stories, some of which aren't nearly as well-known.
Have you heard that there may be spirits residing at any of these spots?
1. The old Laurel Middle School
According to the website Shadowlands, which collects ghosts stories from around the country, many years ago a balcony collapsed in the school gym, killing 7 kids. Since then, people have reported feeling cold in the area where the incident occurred and occasionally spotting white shadowy figures. Of course, this school has since been renovated, so we may never know if this haunting is true.
2. Missoula Children's Theatre
The Missoula Children's Theatre is a fun, lighthearted place... but it has a secret. A poltergeist named George haunts the theatre. If he likes the production being performed, he'll prompt the actors... but if he doesn't, he's been known to throw the storyboards.
3. The Pollard Hotel, Red Lodge
The Pollard dates all the way back to the late 1800s, so it makes sense that it would harbor some paranormal activity. A woman in a yellow dress is said to haunt the third floor, preferring to hover around Room 310.
4. Broadwater Elementary School, Billings
According to local legend, a young girl lost her life at the old Broadwater Elementary School, which was built in 1909. Since then, many people have heard strange noises at night. Some have even seen the image of a little girl.
5. The Historic Kempton Hotel, Terry
The Kempton, which dates back to 1902, has quite the history. In the early 1900s, the attic was used to house flu patients. One of the patients who died there has apparently chosen to linger in spirit, often being spotted in the attic or on the attic stairs wearing a long white dress. Transparent figures have also shown up in people's photos, and guests and employees have heard china clinking and the sounds of dinner being served long after the restaurant has closed.
