This City Just Might Be Montana’s Best Kept Secret
Kalispell, Montana offers a mix of outdoor adventures, historic sites, and cultural attractions, making it a hidden gem for both visitors and residents.
There’s truly something for everyone in the Treasure State. From our bigger (but not too big) cities to our tiny off-the-grid towns, you can enjoy the life of your dreams here, whatever that dream may be. And while some of our cities draw in more tourists than others, those who call Montana home tend to know where the underrated places are. Kalispell isn’t exactly unknown, but many people don’t know just how much of a treasure it is.
First, there’s its location.
Kalispell is a mere 20 minutes away from Flathead Lake, and you can drive to Glacier National Park from town in less than an hour. It’s also close to Whitefish Mountain Ski Resort, the Bob Marshall Wilderness area and some gorgeous parks.
Needless to say, anyone who loves the great outdoors will love Kalispell…
… but there are plenty of indoor attractions as well.
There are some beautiful art galleries downtown, not to mention the Hockaday Museum of Art.
Kalispell has some great places to learn about the past.
The Conrad Mansion dates back to 1868, and the Central School Museum is housed in a historic building that served as a school for almost 100 years.
If you like craft beer, you’ll love Kalispell’s selection of breweries.
The Kalispell Brewing Company is one of many.
You’ll also find some surprisingly good restaurants.
The Desoto Grill operates out of an old blacksmith shop and serves Rockabilly BBQ and local Montana beer.
And don’t forget to see the sweeping views from Lone Pine State Park.
They’re breathtaking.
