Sugary Stop No. 1: Boone County Nature School - Columbia, Missouri
Learn the fascinating history of maple sugaring and traditional methods of harvesting sap from Missouri’s native maple trees. During this hands-on experience, you'll be guided through the process of tapping the trees and cooking the sap into syrup. Plus, you’ll have the opportunity to taste some of Mid-Missouri’s finest maple syrup.

Located just outside St. Louis, Rockwoods Reservation offers an interactive experience to learn about syrup-making. Imagine a crisp February day as you walk through the woods to the sugar bush where sap is collected. Here, you'll explore the history of maple syrup-making, from the Native American methods taught to European settlers to how Colonial Americans refined the art.
