Local legend tells a heartbreaking tale from long ago at this park in Creve Coeur, a name that means “broken heart.” A Native American chief had a daughter, who was married to a great warrior.

Her husband set off on a hunting trip, never to return. Heartbroken and certain she could go on no longer, the wife made her way to the bluffs in what today is Creve Coeur Lake Memorial Park.

There, she plunged to her death, falling into the massive lake below. Some say she still roams the park to this day.
