Rock Hollow Trail in Missouri, also known as Zombie Road, is famous for its paranormal activity and spooky history.
A really good ghost story lingers on in our minds, especially after we go to bed. Maybe it even keeps us up deep into the night. What happens when those ghost stories are possibly true? Well, then, it gets a lot spookier. Rock Hollow Trail, one of the best hikes in Missouri, tells a terrifying tale of the paranormal. Are you brave enough to hike it and see if you come face to face with an apparition?
Rock Hollow Trail winds its way 2.3 miles through Wildwood, boasting an abundance of natural beauty, but its history is anything but beautiful.
A popular hangout for kids during the 1950s, Lawler Ford Road quickly earned a reputation for the paranormal, earning it the nickname Zombie Road.
Legend tells of a man named, perhaps ironically, Zombie, who escaped from a nearby mental institution, running along Lawler Ford Road before simply vanishing. All that remained was a pile of bloody clothing.
Others, however, tell of a Zombie killer, a rather strange individual who lived in a rundown shack along Lawler Ford Road and who hunted innocent young couples.
You might also hear about Della Hamilton McCullough, the wife of a local judge who was out strolling along Lawler Ford Road in 1876 when she was struck by a train and killed instantly.
No one knows for sure who haunts Zombie Road, but plenty of people tell of strange happenings in the area. Individuals tell of cars stalling, of seeing apparitions of children, and the ghosts of Confederate Soldiers.
In fact, if you talk to anyone who hung out along Zombie Road during its storied history, you’re likely to hear a lot of spine-tingling tales.
Because Zombie Road was abandoned and attracted ghost hunters of all ages from all over, it was eventually transitioned to the Rock Hollow Trail.
If you’re up for a hike, you can meander along Rock Hollow Trail between 5 a.m. and 10 p.m. each day. Chances are you’ll find it much spookier once the sun has gone down.
However, if you’re brave enough to trek along the haunted trail, you better finish before the clock strikes 10 p.m. After that, anyone caught along the trail will be subject a fine.
