If you think all bookstores are created equal, you clearly haven’t visited Square Books in Oxford. Occupying three buildings, two floors, and over 10,000 square feet of space, the charming bookstore is like something straight from a dream. Take a look:
Founded in 1979, Square Books encompasses three different buildings – all of which are within 100’ apart on the historic town square in Oxford.
With over 10,000 square feet of merchandise, everyone from the occasional reader to the self proclaimed bookworm is sure to find something that piques their interest.
Located at 160 Courthouse Square, the main store is housed in a 2-story building.
On the 1st floor, you’ll find a "very strong literary fiction section" along with an impressive selection of southern fiction and history.
And if you’re looking for something unique, you’re in luck. Square Books boasts a notable array of signed and collectible books.
As you make your way through the winding bookcases, you’ll find lots more than incredible literature.
The walls are plastered with photographs of authors and author signings.
The 2nd floor of Square Books includes more books and a coffee bar with a balcony that overlooks the courthouse. After purchasing a book (or two), head on up and enjoy the incredible surroundings.
At 111 Courthouse Square, you’ll find Square Books, Jr., which was opened in 2003 to accommodate a growing children’s section.
In addition to books for parents, babies, and kids through teen years, the shelves are brimming with toys, puzzles, and games. Story time is held every Wednesday at 10 am, so be sure to plan your visit accordingly.
Located at 129 Courthouse Square, Off Square Books is just a short stroll from Square Books and Square Books, Jr.
The "lifestyle and leisure" store carries books on travel, cooking, art, photography, fashion, games, etiquette, hobbies and collecting. And that’s in addition to a variety of magazines, gifts, and a section of bargain/used books.
Each year, Square Books hosts about 150 author events, readings, talks, and signings - most of which are held at Off Square Books. Learn about upcoming author events here.
Visit Square Books Monday through Saturday, from 9 am – 9 pm, and on Sunday, from 9 am – 6 pm. For more information, click here.
