Attend the Mississippi Delta Blues & Heritage Festival in Greenville for a historic and music-filled experience.
With so many music festivals in Mississippi, it's easy to get overwhelmed with which ones to commit to. If you could only attend one music festival in Mississippi this year, I encourage you to go to the Mississippi Delta Blues & Heritage Festival this September. Not only will you get to enjoy a day full of incredible music, but you'll be a part of history. This is the longest continuously running blues festival in Mississippi, and it's one of my favorites. Let's check it out:
Every year, Greenville throws one of the most historic music festivals in Mississippi, the Delta Blues Festival.
It takes place at the Washington County Convention Center on September 16, 2023.
The festival is the oldest continuously operated blues festival in the world, and this year will be its 46th year.
When the first festival was thrown in 1978, it was more of a small-town, community gathering. This is how so many of Mississippi’s greatest festivals began.
Over time, the festival grew and expanded and is now one of the most popular festivals in the south.
Musical legends including B.B. King, Sam Chatman, Willy Foster, Muddy Waters, Bobby Rush, and Denise LaSalle are just a few of the talented musicians that have performed at the Mississippi Delta Blues and Heritage Festival.
The one-day festival starts at noon, with the gates opening at 10 a.m.
Get your tickets now. Admission is $40 until September 5, $50 after September 5, and $50 at the gate, so save some money and lock it in now.
Before you snag your spot on the lawn, be sure to check out the many local vendors that will be setting up their shops.
There will be a wide variety of vendors out and about, and you'll be supporting small businesses with every purchase.
Of course, no festival in Mississippi is complete without some delicious food, and the Blues Festival is no different.
The full vendor list hasn't been announced yet, but you can bet there will be all your favorite festival foods to tide you over in between sets.
This is one festival you'll want to come prepared for.
We all know how hot it's been lately, and with the festival only a few weeks away, it's probably still going to be hot. Make sure you've got plenty of water, a comfortable chair, and most importantly, some shade! Invest in a nice umbrella or hat to keep you out of the sun, and don't forget the sunscreen!
Visit the Mississippi Delta Blues & Heritage Festival website to get your tickets, and be sure to follow the Delta Blues Festival on Facebook so you don't miss any important announcements. if you're driving in for the festival, consider spending the weekend in Greenville!
