The Remarkable Bridge In Mississippi That Everyone Should Visit At Least Once

The Byram Swinging Bridge in Mississippi, adorned with over 2,000 love locks, is a unique and historic footbridge worth visiting.

You may not think of a bridge as a must-visit destination, but there is one in Mississippi that's worthy of a visit - the Byram Swinging Bridge. There are several things that make the centuries-old bridge special, but the sweetest is definitely the fact that it’s covered in "love locks." Take a look:

Built in 1905, the Byram Swinging Bridge spans the Pearl River. It’s located in the small town of Byram, near Jackson.

The bridge, which is suspended by steel cables, was once open to traffic and actually swayed when cars went over it. (Hence the name "Swinging Bridge.")

In 2013, the Byram Swinging Bridge was restored and transformed into a footbridge.

Shortly after its renovation, couples began flocking to the bridge to adorn it with "love locks."

The tradition of love locks, which are padlocks that usually feature a couple’s initials, started in Europe sometime in the 2000s.

And now, it looks like that tradition's made its way to Mississippi.

As of today, there are more than 2,000 locks on the bridge!

Locks of all shapes and sizes adorn both sides of the bridge, but don’t worry - there’s plenty of room for more.

Luckily, the town’s mayor is completely supportive of the sweet tradition. Plus, he’s checked with engineers and confirmed the bridge can "hold thousands" of locks.

Watch the drone footage below for an incredible birds-eye view of the bridge (and the locks).
