With dinosaurs, museums, and one of the state’s most unique trails, it goes without saying that LeFleur’s Bluff State Park is no ordinary park. But just because it boasts some unusual features doesn’t mean it’s lacking typical park perks – it’s got plenty of those too.
Located in Jackson, LeFleur’s Bluff State Park is an urban oasis with a unique mix of amenities.
Comprised of just over 300 acres of woodlands, it provides a quick, easy escape from city life.
Park-goers can enjoy a wealth of recreational opportunities – many of which revolve around Mayes Lake.
The 50-acre lake offers great fishing.
It’s also a top spot for RV and tent camping.
Other park perks include a nine-hole golf course, driving range, and playground. There are nature trails too, but the hiking opportunities don’t end with the park’s trails.
The Museum Trail, Jackson's first "rail trail,” connects four museums and three parks, including LeFleur’s Bluff State Park and its two museums: the Mississippi Children’s Museum and the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science.
Fun for kids (and kids at heart) the Mississippi Children’s Museum, features hands-on exhibits and programs for children and their families.
In 2021, the museum grew to include a huge, 30,000-square-foot playground.
The park’s other museum, the Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, is just as amazing.
Visitors can meet a two-headed snake, snap selfies with a sloth, and explore aquariums, trails, and more.
There are dinosaurs too! Initially a temporary exhibit, the dinosaurs are now a permanent fixture at the museum.
