The University of Michigan Museum of Art in Ann Arbor offers free admission to view over 20,000 works of art, including pieces by famous artists like Monet and Picasso.

Many Michiganders will drive outside of the Great Lake State to visit the Art Institute of Chicago. But did you know that you can find incredible works of art, including pieces by famous painters, right here in our home state? Artists and art lovers will appreciate this admission free museum in Ann Arbor, Michigan.

The University of Michigan Museum of Art is located in Southeast Michigan, a 45-minute drive outside of Detroit.

When you arrive you’ll notice multiple exquisite sculptures outside the museum like the Mark di Suvero Orion sculpture. Make sure to take time to explore the grounds and university architecture before entering the museum.

The museum was built in 1909 and boasts 94,000 square feet, all of which can be viewed for free, although a $10 donation is suggested and appreciated.

With over 20,000 works of art that represent more than 150 years of history, culture, and media, it’s easy to believe that this is one of the largest university art museums in the United States. While the museum is spread across multiple floors, all of the public areas and galleries are wheelchair accessible.

The vast collection has pieces from world-famous artists such as Claude Monet, Pablo Picasso, and many more.
