Explore four picturesque covered bridges near Detroit, perfect for autumn adventures and photography.

Autumn is the perfect time to venture outside and explore the many unique attractions that make the Motor City so special and scenic. When you’re looking for a dash of wholesome adventure and picturesque exploration, nothing beats a beautiful covered bridge. Bring along your camera and round up a few loved ones as you check out these four covered bridges within driving distance of Detroit.

1. Huroc Park Bridge, Flat Rock

As its name implies, this delightful covered bridge is located within Huroc Park in the town of Flat Rock. Whether you’re here for a simple stroll, looking for a place to bask in the fall foliage, or seeking a picnic destination, Huroc Park is loaded with charm - and its covered bridge is the prime attraction. As you walk across the bridge, you’ll enjoy peaceful views of the Huron River and its surrounding scenery.

2. Holz-Brucke Covered Bridge (Frankenmuth)

If you don’t mind making the 90-minute drive to Frankenmuth, you’ll find a magical sight: the Holz Brücke Covered Bridge, which is the largest wooden bridge in the entire state of Michigan. The community as a whole is notable for its striking Bavarian-inspired architecture, but the bridge is worthy of attention in and of itself. It stretches for an impressive 239 feet across the lovely Cass River. While all of Michigan's covered bridges are lovely (no matter the season!), this one is definitely one of the most unique.

3. Ackley Covered Bridge, Dearborn

Most Metro Detroit residents have visited Greenfield Village at the Henry Ford in Dearborn during previous outings, but did you know that there’s a covered bridge within this unique living history museum? Built in Pennsylvania all the way back in 1832, this wondrous wooden and stone structure was moved to Michigan in 1937. Today, guests can take a break from exploring Greenfield Village to appreciate the shade of this picture-perfect structure.

4. Fallasburg Bridge, Lowell

Our final selection certainly isn’t located within Metro Detroit, but we thought it deserved attention nonetheless: after all, it might just be the most quaint covered bridge in Michigan, stretching for 100 feet across the waters of the Flat River in Lowell. You’ll have to embark on a two-hour drive to reach Fallasburg Park, but what better time than fall for a fun day trip? When you arrive, capture a few photos of the vibrant surrounding leaves and appreciate the natural ambiance.
