Baxter State Park encompasses 209,501 acres around Mount Katahdin. It's a magnificent spot for all kinds of outdoor recreation.

If you're in the mood to explore on foot, you'll find dozens of trails. There's one here for every age and fitness level.

With a little bit of work, you'll enjoy views like this.

If you're feeling really energetic, hike to the top of Mount Katahdin - the highest spot in the state. It sits at an elevation of 5,267 feet.

The many lakes, ponds, streams and rivers just add to the majestic beauty of this place.

Drop your kayak or canoe in to enjoy these scenic little lakes and ponds.

The park is teeming with all kinds of wildlife, including plenty of moose. You can also drop a line in to fish here.

Camp at one of the sites here for an overnight adventure. The sites are open in summer and winter, but they're primitive. You won't find running water or electricity anywhere in the park.

This year-round park is every bit as beautiful during the winter.

Many of the trails are still accessible to hikers.

You can even stay overnight in one of the cozy cabins.

Cross-country skiing is popular here during winter months.

Enjoy snowmobiling along the 46-mile-long Tote Road.
