Winter in Maine was made for people who enjoy the outdoors! With so many ways to enjoy the season, we sometimes wonder why summer is so popular. While quite a few people make their way north for skiing, there are some even better options for enjoying the colder temperatures. One of those options is outdoor ice skating and no one offers more space than the Sugarloaf Outdoor Center! The largest ice skating rink in Maine is waiting for you to enjoy.
The Sugarloaf Outdoor Center in Carrabassett Valley is a popular attraction during the summer. When the weather is warm, they offer tons of different ways to enjoy the area without snow. But, it's just as fun in the winter when you want to enjoy something other than downhill skiing.
The sprawling area includes cross-country skiing trails and other fun activities, but we like to visit for one special attraction!
The skating rink, which typically opens in mid-December and stays open through most of March, is a great way to enjoy some fresh air while also partaking in a fun activity.
The skating here is impressive because it's the largest ice skating rink in Maine!
The facility measures over 17,000 square feet, which is the size of an official NHL rink, so you'll probably feel like you've got the place to yourself.
And on a sunny day in the winter, there's no better feeling than gliding around the ice under Maine blue skies.
Haven't skated before, but love the idea of trying it out this season? The Outdoor Center offers skate rentals, so you don't need to bring your own. And, if you have skates that you love to use, they can handle sharpening to make sure they're in tip-top shape. Be sure to pop inside and ask them for more details on both services.
Weather permitting, the rink offers pick-up hockey for those who enjoy some friendly competition. And, to enjoy fun with everyone you love, make sure to show up for family nights.
The Sugarloaf Outdoor Center Ice Skating Rink is open Sunday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. The rink is typically open for skating in mid-December and remains open through most of March. Of course, this depends on the weather so always check with them first. You can learn more on their website, by following them on Facebook or by calling them at (207) 237-6830.
Ice skating isn't the only activity to enjoy. Don't forget to visit these best places in Maine to go snow tubing this winter!
