Maine Dogsledding Adventures is located in Millinocket and the owners, Angel & Don Hibbs, are absolute experts!
In fact, over the past 30 years, they've traveled 60,000 miles by dogteam in the remote wilderness areas of Maine, Canada, and Alaska.
Back in Maine, they lead half-day, full-day, or 2-3 day dog sledding trips for people like us!
A half day trip is a great way learn the ropes.
These tours meet at the kennel on the outskirts of Millinocket. At the beginning, your group will have a chance to meet the huskies, take photos of the area, and ask questions.
Afterwards, they harness up a team and mush 15 miles into the forest and lake wilderness just south of Baxter Park. During this part of the day, there are incredible views of with Mt Katahdin rising in the background! About halfway through the day the group will stop to build an open fire, eat and feed the dogs. And, everyone (even the kids!) can have a turn on the runners driving the sled!
The two-day trip is a totally hands-on experience allowing visitors to drive their own sled and camp overnight.
The Alaskan Huskies you'll meet are truly a part of the Hibbs family.
And, when they're not taking adorable naps like this, they're the hardest working dogs you'll find!
