It can sometimes feel like nothing in Maine is new. The same old rivers, the same worn trails. In ways, this is what makes Maine so wonderful. There's a lot here that feels like home. But every so often it's fun to unearth the attractions that we've never been to for a dose of something new. That's why we loved stumbling across this fun bridge in Maine! Check it out for a fun day trip the next time the sun is out!
If you're a regular reader of Only in Maine you'll remember that Bethel Outdoor Adventure is one of our favorite places for gem finding. But, it offers so much more.
One of our favorite ways to enjoy the outdoors here is also one of the most simple. The Burma Bridge heads to a special island that you'll love exploring.
The bridge spans a piece of the Androscoggin River to Hastings Island.
The 500-footer begins on the Bethel Outdoor Adventure property. Just hop on the ramp to get started!
The bridge goes immediately upwards, but the incline is fairly reasonable and good for most skill levels.
The route heads high into the trees giving visitors a real sense of adventure!
And there's plenty to see, which means this route is more than just a way to get across the Androscoggin. It's also a great way to remember why we live here.
And if you time your trip right you just might catch a special Maine sunset.
Once you get to the top the bridge is fairly flat.
On Hastings Island, there's a 1-mile walking trail offering birdwatching, wildlife watching and views of Maine's natural land.
This a simple way to enjoy a day out in Maine. And it's even better if you hope you make a few days of it by camping here!
