There are almost 30 miles of exploration to do throughout the Northshore of Louisiana that is definitely going to bring a smile to your face.

The Tammany Trace follows the path of the former Illinois Central Railroad.

It's now a hike and bike trail that you can take through downtown Covington, Abita Springs, Mandeville, and Lacombe, eventually ending up in Slidell. There are over 30 paved miles of the trail.

The Covington trailhead is located at the old railroad station, which has become a hub for community activity.

If you stop here, you may be in time for the Farmer's market, which includes fresh produce and live music.

Cyclers truly love spending time on this path, since there are so many beautiful sights to see along the way.

Built over a period of many years, it's still a growing trail, one of the fastest growing in Louisiana.

The Abita Springs trailhead is another popular stop, especially because the Trailhead Museum is located here.

There you can learn about the history of the town as well as walk just a few blocks away for a pit stop at the Abita brew pub.

There are a number of bridges to cross throughout your time on the trail, including the Lacombe bridge pictured here.

You'll enjoy peeking the variety of bayous you'll pass along the way.
