Louisiana has countless plantations and historical markers peppered throughout the state that every Louisianian should check out at least once. Laurel Valley Village, in particular, should move to the top of the list, and once you visit, you'll understand why. You'll feel like you've been transported back to the past as you meander through what was once one of the largest sugar plantations in Lafourche Parish, learning about the history of the plantation as well as the area. It makes for a great day trip for families with kids of all ages, especially since you'll be able to feed all the farm animals on the property. Let's take a closer look.

Laurel Valley Village is located along Bayou Lafourche in Thibodaux, Louisiana.

With nearly 60 original structures, this little piece of history in Lafourche Parish is the largest surviving 19th and 20th-century sugar plantation left in the country.

Some of the earliest structures date back to the 1830s.

It’s a history lover’s paradise. As you stroll through the property, you’ll be able to see the original schoolhouse, church, slave cabins, and more.

As well as antique tools and equipment.

Be sure to pop into the General Store to take a peek around.

Not only can you pick up some local jams and jellies, but the general store also acts as a partial museum.

You’ll see even more artifacts from the antebellum era as well as learn a little about the plantation’s history.

It makes for a great day trip for the whole family.

The little ones will especially love getting to feed the animals at Laurel Valley Village.

Laurel Valley Village is open seven days a week.

Their hours of operation are from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
