The Haunted Hike In New Orleans Will Send You Running For The Hills
New Orleans' Maurepas Wildlife Refuge is known for its haunted swamps and eerie legends, making it a popular spot for hiking and boating.
New Orleans is one of the most haunted places in the entire country, and the beautiful swamps surrounding the area are no exception. Once you hear the story of these haunted swamps, you'll understand why they are so well known for being haunted and a little spooky. And like all good Louisiana swamps---you'll be better off taking your boat here than walking around!
The Maurepas Wildlife Refuge is found as you are leaving New Orleans on I-10.
It's a really beautiful swamp area that is a favorite for hiking and exploring.
There are a number of trails and areas where people can do recreational activities. And one of the favorite ways people like to explore these parts is by boat--kayaking or canoeing is perfect!
But there is more that meets the eye in this swamp so close to New Orleans. It is actually a place that is surrounded by many legends.
The most famous one concerns a storm that struck this area in the early 20th century.
The town of Maurepas was a sweet fishing village.
There was a voodoo priestess named Juliet White who wasn't popular in the town.
One day, she predicted that huge storm was going to come to the town and wreak havoc on everything.
It was such a violent storm and it came on so suddenly, many people passed away. Juliet was one of the only people who survived--and many say she haunts this swamp. Some say you can hear her screams and wails, as well as the sound of great windy storms, even when there isn't a cloud in the sky.
So even though there is a lot of majestic beauty in these areas, there is also this creepy legend that haunts visitors. It really makes me wonder if I could survive a night in these spooky swamps!
