'Tis the season! In just a few short weeks, Christmas decorations will start illuminating neighborhoods all across the pelican State, and we’ve got the scoop on some of the best Christmas light displays in Louisiana that will instantly get you in the holiday spirit this year. Don’t let the season pass by without checking out one or two of these incredible Christmas light displays.
1. Natchitoches Christmas Festival
The Natchitoches Christmas Festival
is entering its 93rd year this season and you won’t want to miss it. This incredible festival attracts thousands of people from all across the country and it's easy to see why. Louisiana’s oldest city transforms into a winter wonderland with more than 300,000 lights plus 100 set pieces on display every evening during the Christmas Season, a six-week period that extends from the Saturday before Thanksgiving until early January.
2. Celebration in the Oaks
Head to New Orleans’ City Park to experience quite the holiday display with the annual Celebration in the oaks. For over 30 years, Celebration in the Oaks
is a spectacular holiday light festival with more than a million lights illuminating 25 acres of the park including the Botanical Garden, Storyland, and the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park.
3. Christmas in Roseland
Usually starting at the end of November and running up until Christmas Eve, the American Rose Center transforms into Christmas in Roseland, a dazzling light display with thousands of twinkling lights, displays, and giant Christmas cards that would put even the Grinch into the holiday spirit. Santa will be making an appearance every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday evening, s don't miss your chance for a visit!
4. Baton Rouge ZooLights
Walk through a mile-long trail through the zoo with more than 50 illuminated display sculptures of your favorite animals and traditional holiday displays. Baton Rouge ZooLights is nightly, typically beginning end of November and lasting the entire month of December.
5. Holiday Light Safari
If you’re closer to Alexandria, be sure to visit the Alexandria Zoological Park this holiday season. Every weekend for the month of December, the Alexandria Zoo lights up for a holiday light safari that both kids and adults will love. Stroll through hundreds of illuminated displays, take a holiday train ride, and share your wish list with Santa.
6. Candy Cane Lane
Candy Cane Lane is a mesmerizing mile-long drive-thru holiday display that’ll take you on quite an enchanting ride. Hundreds of twinkling lights and holiday displays light the way as you drive through the wooded area.
7. Lafreniere Park
Lafreniere Park is the largest park in Metairie, and every year it transforms with thousands of sparkling lights that the whole family will enjoy. The 60-foot sea serpent in the lagoon is always a hit with kids, and after you’ve strolled through the park be sure to take a spin on the carousel which will be open nightly.
