The property’s sinister story begins in the late 1800s when it operated as a slaughterhouse. The building’s basement featured a well used for discarding animal remains, later dubbed the “portal to hell” due to rumors of occult rituals. These stories took a darker turn with the 1896 murder of Pearl Bryan. The young woman’s headless body was found nearby, and her killers were rumored to have dabbled in satanic practices. Some claim Pearl’s restless spirit lingers, searching for justice or peace.

In the mid-20th century, the site transformed into a nightclub and casino, allegedly linked to organized crime. Reports of violent incidents and mysterious deaths during this era added to its grim lore. By the time country singer Bobby Mackey opened it as a music venue in 1978, the building’s history was already steeped in tales of tragedy and terror.

Since then, employees, patrons, and paranormal investigators have reported spine-tingling encounters. Shadowy figures, phantom voices, and even physical sensations like scratches or shoves are common claims. The basement, where the infamous well remains, is said to be the epicenter of these ghostly happenings. Unfortunately, as of December 11, 2024, what's been dubbed America's most haunted nightclub, has been demolished. After nearly 50 years, the old bones are being torn down. But a silver lining to it all? Bobby Mackey and his wife plan to rebuild a new, one-story bar on the land by 2026.
