Explore seven unique and enjoyable hidden gems in Kansas that are often considered tourist traps.

Though they are designed to attract travelers from anywhere, these are actually some of our favorite little attractions to see. These hidden gems in Kansas are typically billed as tourist traps, but they’re tourist traps that we genuinely enjoy. If you’re itching for some fun things to do in Kansas, then come with me to explore these 7 little treasures across our beautiful state.

1. Gunfighters Wax Museum - Dodge City

Though it's hiding out in the Kansas Teachers Hall of Fame building, you'll find a small bit of history preserved in uncanny wax statues in Dodge City. It's a real treat to add to a trip through the area!

2. Truckhenge - Topeka

Truckhenge started as a fight against local government regulations, and ended up a great place to stop by on road trips. Though it's more of a tourist attraction, we'll always remember it as one of our favorite art installations across the state.

4. Boot Hill Museum - Dodge City

The old west comes together for this Kansas museum, which is definitely more fun than your average museum. Reenactments, events, and more make this museum something extra cool.

5. The Big Well Museum - Greensburg

This well has survived so much, from time to a tornado that wiped out the rest of Greensburg. The largest hand-dug well survives, and is now much prettier inside, serving as a local museum as well as the historic well.

6. Dorothy's House & Land of Oz - Liberal

Though we are all familiar with Oz and its inhabitants, this museum takes it a step further. Character actors for tours, a beautiful statue, and more make this tourist trap into something we can all enjoy.
