The Coolest Visitor Center In Kansas Has Tons Of Exhibits And Is Right On A National Preserve

Visitor centers dot the country's highway system, but it's likely that you don't think of them too much. They're often used for bathroom breaks, maybe to pick up a brochure or two, but most visitor centers in Kansas don't have much of a reputation as a destination all on their own. The spot we're featuring today just might change your mind, as this is a pretty cool visitor center in Kansas! The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is among the state's natural wonders, and you can learn all about it at the Tallgrass Prairie Visitor Center, possibly the best visitors center in Texas.

The Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve spans more than 29,000 acres in the Flint Hills. This type of ecosystem was once extremely common, but very little remains and much of it is protected in the Flint Hills.

There's a lot to see here, but you'll definitely want to stop by the visitor center.

The mural at the entrance provides a beautiful representation of both the prairie and the American bison who live here.

The Tallgrass Prairie bison herd helps to promote genetic diversity within Federal bison herds. It's got remarkably little hybridization with domestic cattle, which is unusual.

There are some great exhibits inside if you're interested in learning more about the ecosystem or preserve.

The park is home to several other buildings, including a limestone barn and a historic 1881 ranch house.

You can also see fascinating antique farm equipment on display.

This is a wonderful place to learn more about Kansas' heritage and the history of this unique area.
