There are many unique attractions surrounding Indianapolis, from incredible parks to amazing architecture. Yet, many people don't know that just north of the Indy, there's an incredible village where time seems to stand still. This unique village is perfect for a weekend day trip and always has amazing attractions worth exploring.
Conner Prairie is an interactive history museum park that you'll find in Fishers, Indiana. This incredible living history museum recreates prairie life in the early 19th century for children and adults to enjoy.
Conner Prairie is a Smithsonian affiliate (the first in Indiana) and one of the most visited living history museums in the U.S. The main premise behind Conner Prairie is simple: in today's fast-paced world, this museum is a place where you can slow down and enjoy meaningful conversations and moments with one another.
There are several different living exhibits to visit once you arrive at Conner Prairie. The first one is 1836 Prairietown, arguably the park's most popular attraction.
Here, visitors will meet with the residents of Prairietown and learn about their daily lives.
You'll learn their unique jobs and learn some new skills and trades. You might learn some fascinating tips from their blacksmith...
...watch as the Prairietown carpenter creates incredible furniture...
...or enjoy some freshly made bread or other food items.
Kids will definitely love meeting Prairietown's animal residents, from sheep and goats to hogs and bunnies.
You'll also love the Balloon Voyage exhibit, where you'll be taken back in time to 1859 Lafayette, Indiana. You'll get to experience the magic of a hot air balloon ride and float over Conner Prairie from 350 feet in the air.
Kids and history buffs will also enjoy the 1863 Civil War Journey. Visitors will cross a covered bridge to find themselves in 1863 Dupont, Indiana where they'll meet local residents and soldiers, help gather important supplies for the Solider's Aid Society, and enjoy and participate in exciting military drills. There are also fun (and safe) water cannons kids can play with.
Aside from these three main exhibits, you'll also find the Lenape Indian Camp, Animal Encounters, the Treetop Outpost, and much more. Kids and adults alike will love the magic this interactive museum has to offer every visitor.
If you've never been to Conner Prairie, be sure to visit on February 19th, when admission is free to honor Presidents Day. You'll find this historic interactive museum in Fishers at 13400 Allisonville Rd, Fishers, IN 46038.
