1. Inspiration Point - Shawnee National Forest
A .8-mile hike through the Shawnee National Forest will bring you to one of the most peaceful places in the state. Visitors enjoy exceptional views of the Mississippi River valley and the Big Muddy bottomlands as they sit and contemplate. The spot is known for inspiring ideas in people, and even you may be enlightened.

2. Sunset Inn and Suites - Clinton
This hotel is right in the middle of Bloomington, Champaign, and Decatur with Springfield and Peoria not far off. 3. Moonshine Store - Moonshine
The address for this middle-of-nowhere restaurant is actually listed as Martinsville, and locals know it as "a wide spot in the road." It has been in operation since 1912 and is open daily from 6 a.m. to 1 p.m. Get your Moonburger with bacon and cheese for the best tastes.

4. Firefly Grill - Effingham
Enjoy eye-popping views of the water as you dine on sophisticated eats and comfort food. This building looks like an old warehouse on the outside, but inside, you'll find an upscale dining experience that's worth every mile you have to travel.

5. Hank's Farm Restaurant - Ottawa
Tucked in a curve of the Fox River, this country-style restaurant serves down-home dishes like meatballs and fried chicken, and it has a brunch buffet on Sundays. Though it was once a dairy farm, it was converted into a tavern in 1941 and still maintains the same vintage, wood interior.

6. White Pines Inn - Mount Morris
In operation for about 80 years, this amazing place has a fireplace inside and a lovely area for outdoor seating. Nestled in White Pines Forest State Park, way off the beaten path, you'll want to visit this log cabin-style restaurant often. It serves home-style dishes and also has a buffet.

7. Blue Sky Vineyard - Makanda
Enjoy award-winning wine as you stroll through the vines or enjoy the Tuscan-like views from the patio. The winery is known for both its reds and whites, and many come for the delicious sangria. You can even spend the night at this gorgeous place and sleep amongst the Shawnee National Forest.
