We're used to coming across all sorts of quirky oddities here in the Gem State, but the destination featured here may just take the cake. Museums may have a reputation for being stuffy and boring. However, this weird museum is truly anything but! Hiding out in Idaho Falls, it's home to a humongous collection of all sorts of eccentric items and it's well-worth a stop when you find yourself driving past it. It may look more than ordinary on the outside, but just wait until you get inside. You won't believe what awaits.
Looking at it from the outside, you'd never expect that this place is a museum. Collectors' Corner Museum looks as ordinary as can be from the exterior, but walk inside and you'll see that that's far from the truth.
Collectors' Corner Museum is exactly what it sounds like: a museum of collection. In fact, there are over 125 collections containing thousands of items in this little building, and it's actually an amazing sight to see. Sure, it's a bit cluttered, but that's all part of the charm.
As is true with all weird attractions, there's a story behind how this place came to be. The owners, Jim and Nida Gyorfy, opened it back in 2003. Married since 1960, the couple has been collecting a variety of items for decades.
On display are just about every type of collection you could dream of, from Precious Moments figurines to model planes. Some are well-known collectors' items and other are completely random that just happened to appeal to the Gyorfys. Your attention will be pulled in all sorts of directions and your eye may have trouble finding something to settle on first!
Many of the items were once commonly found, but not so much anymore. Items like Troll dolls, mechanical monkeys, and Beanie Babies are sure to throw you back to a different era. However, it's the sheer number of items contained in this tiny museum that is truly astonishing.
What's extra impressive is that every item in the museum was handpicked and collected by either Jim or Nida. Although most people shop for collectors' items online these days, the items in this museum were collected over years upon years of stumbling across them in the real world. This is more than just a bunch of random toys and knick-knacks. This is the Gyorfy's ultimate life work.
Although slightly strange, the Collectors' Corner Museum is definitely an entertaining place to visit for both young and old. Stop on by and check out one of the weirdest museums in Idaho!
Collectors' Corner Museum is open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Address: 900 John Adams Pkwy, Idaho Falls, ID 83401
